Helping national reforms meet local conditions

Health reform is happening across Australia. The Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing’s agenda is shaped by years of advocacy, pilots, programs and health sector data. The impact is ultimately felt locally: in health services, by the people working in them and, most importantly, in the experiences of patients and communities.

NWMPHN’s role is to translate major national policy directives into services and initiatives that respond to the diverse needs of people across our 3,200 square kilometre region.

Those needs are not uniform. They vary between communities and change over time, requiring us to understand where gaps exist, what matters locally, and how targeted investments can best complement and strengthen the health system.

Initiatives and programs are spread across primary care, mental health, urgent care, aged care, palliative care, and women’s health, to name a few.

For more national programs visit: Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program, the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive, the Greater Choice for Palliative Care at Home program, MyMedicare, Medicare Mental Health and the Medicare Mental Health Check In service.
